FEMCITY GILBERT HOSTS AND ORGANIZES BENEFIT FOR 7 YEAR OLD BOY
JJ Zupin, diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes Needs a DAD (Diabetic Alert Assistance Dog)
“My name is Allyson Zupin, I am a military wife and a mother of 3 wonderful boys. My son JJ is 7 years old and was diagnosed on November 1, 2012 with Type 1 Diabetes. We are trying to raise money to get JJ a much needed Diabetic Alert Dog.
Diabetic Alert Assistance Dogs are a specific type of Medical Assistance Dog that have been trained to use their highly sensitive scent capabilities to identify the changes in blood chemistry that occur during rapid changes in blood sugar levels.
JJ is a first grader at Bologna Elementary in Chandler, Arizona where we live. He loves to read, play video games, and watch TV. He wants to be a police officer when he grows up. He also wants to play sports this fall and is really excited to get started in Cub Scouts also! He is an amazingly smart little boy that was diagnosed with ADHD at 4 and then Type 1 Diabetes at 6.

This journey so far has been very tedious. My husband Joe and I wake up sometimes several times a night checking blood sugar and keeping an eye on JJ. I am always worried about lows or highs at night and something happening to my son in his sleep, such as s
eizures, coma, and other problems. Having a DAD (Diabetic Alert Dog) would help us sleep at night, knowing the dog would alert us if there were a significant change in JJ’s numbers!
We are having a fundraising event on July 12th from 6-8:30 PM at BLOOM Studios in Gilbert. You can stop by and shop, or if you own a small business (as a woman) you can also reserve a table to host your product at the event, see more info here.
